• 2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S

  • Porsche ME have extended their Panamera range by introducing the superlative Panamera Turbo S, arguably the world’s fastest '4-door'. The sports car theme of the Panamera continues to be paraded and this time around it gets the mother of all motors. Think monster Cayenne Turbo S engine bolted to a lighter chassis and a body language that translates as slither and you know it’s going to be mighty fast. The twin-turbo DFI 4.8-litre V8 is rated at 550bhp @ 6000 rpm i.e. 8 horses off what was originally meant for the Carrera GT carbon-fibre supercar.

Torque figures hover the 750Nm region and climbs to a meteoric 800Nm with 'Overboost' between 2250-4500 rpm. Claimed acceleration figures are a brisk 3.8 seconds from a standstill to a ton, matching the first-gen Lamborghini Murcielago. Porsche’s press release states that the 12.9 seconds it takes to reach 200 km/h is only a second (2 seconds in reality!) behind their halo-ed super car Carrera GT, while top speed is a scenery-blurring 306 km/h. 2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo SDrivetrain components include a 7-speed PDK transmission and an all-wheel drive system. The Panamera Turbo S comes standard with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) and a speed-dependent Servotronic steering system. In addition, it features the Sport Chrono Package Turbo, which induces aggression in the suspension and power unit settings with the 'Sport Plus' button activated. The sports exhaust system included in the basic configuration allows you to switch between rumble to a roar with the press of a button.

By virtue of 'Porsche Intelligent Performance' fuel economy figures match that of the Panamera Turbo and when fitted with Michelin developed 19' all-season tyres with optimised rolling resistance the GT returns 11.3l/100km. CO2 emissions are a commendable 270g/100km. 2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo SChoose from 17 exterior colours that include Amethyst metallic, Cognac metallic Yachting blue. Interiors come in either single or 2 tone colour schemes while trims are available in 4 varieties, namely wood, brushed aluminium, black lacquer finish and carbon-fibre. Audiophiles have a choice of 2 systems, a 14-speaker 585 Watt Bose Audio or a 16-speaker 1000 Watt Burmester system. Park Assist, Lane Change Assist, Porsche Entry Drive, Adaptive cruise control etc are all optional extras. A base model Panamera Turbo S retails at AED 813,600 in the UAE but add a few of those necessary extras like premium audio, a reversing camera and maybe some aesthetic enhancements like logo embossed seats, painted wheels etc. and expect prices to soar above 900k, which is pretty much Aston Martin Rapide and Maserati Quattroporte territory. In all certainty someone’s going to bite the dust…keep tuned in for the comparative road test!
